Jonathan Abelove has dedicated his public service to strengthening the Tustin Unified School District and expanding opportunities for every student. Since first joining the Board of Education in 1994, Jonathan has helped guide the district through decades of growth, change, and achievement while staying focused on the same goal: giving each generation of Tustin students the tools they need to succeed.
As a longtime Tustin resident, local business owner, and community leader, Jonathan understands that strong schools depend on strong partnerships. He believes the best decisions happen when teachers, classified professionals, parents, administrators, students, and community members have a seat at the table. That collaborative approach has shaped his service on the Board and helped Tustin Unified maintain its reputation as one of California’s strongest public school districts.
Throughout his tenure, Jonathan has championed responsible budgeting, modernized school facilities, strong academic programs, and investments that support learning inside and outside the classroom. He has earned a reputation for listening, building consensus, and making thoughtful decisions that put students first.
Jonathan’s commitment to students extends well beyond the school board. He serves as President of Tustin Scholarships, Executive Vice President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin, a Boardmember of the Tustin Area Council for Fine Arts, and an active member of the Rotary Club of Tustin-Santa Ana. Through these roles, he helps connect students and families with scholarships, enrichment programs, arts opportunities, and community support.
More than thirty years after first taking office, Jonathan continues to bring the same commitment to students, families, and educators that inspired him to run in the first place. He remains focused on protecting Tustin Unified’s tradition of excellence, supporting the people who make local schools work, and preparing every student for success in college, careers, and life.
